Prison

that double life sentence shit really is bullshit. it proves the legal system isn’t operating with common sense. If a nigga told me i’d be in jail for the rest of my life i’d go ok.. i can respect that. But if he told me i’d get double life or some 800 year bullshit i’d tell him to go fuck himself. Just say “natural life” if its over like 90 or so nigga. Don’t be juvenile.

Basically. Then the other side is, what’s worst than being in prison for rest of your existence? Death? Then the question is whether rehabilitation is truly possible before considering the death penalty assuming the legal proceedings/trial before were fair. I went to a government job fair and talked to a dude representing the prisons. His message was basically keep people who’d “hit you on the head” off the streets and some of the prisoners would not participate in education offered in prisons. I came with shit I’ve read on Tumblr and he shut me down every time by saying I must be in favor of criminals on the street, being hit on the head, and robbed. Old black dude speak of course.

The Kevin Nealon Show - Godfrey (by TheLaughFactory)

Prison jokes and hypothetical scenarios. Major lolz.

Black youth are arrested for drug crimes at a rate ten times higher than that of whites. But new research shows that young African Americans are actually less likely to use drugs and less likely to develop substance use disorders, compared to whites, Native Americans, Hispanics and people of mixed race.

A chart showing the population density of prisoners in various countries. Notice the one red country on the entire chart: the USA

Sigh. Hopefully the prison industrial complex will be a thing of the past as well as the drug war…and all other questionable policies.

The U.S. Department of Justice recently released its first-ever estimate of the number of inmates who are sexually abused in America each year. According to the department’s data, which are based on nationwide surveys of prison and jail inmates as well as young people in juvenile detention centers, at least 216,600 inmates were victimized in 2008 alone. Contrary to popular belief, most of the perpetrators were not other prisoners but staff members—corrections officials whose job it is to keep inmates safe. On average, each victim was abused between three and five times over the course of the year. The vast majority were too fearful of reprisals to seek help or file a formal complaint.

Must be awful to have no one to go to. The people who keep prisoners safe carry out the greatest crimes against them.

Black men are half as likely to die at any given time if they’re in prison than if they aren’t, suggests a new study of North Carolina inmates.

The headline made me say ouch. Another negative stat I have to prove otherwise. Sigh.
